Sunday, 31 January ’21

Below you will find a progression through the different components of our usual Sunday morning services. Each section is marked off by a heading, which is followed by an audio bar (for those who prefer to listen) as well as the text (for those who prefer to read). Obviously this doesn't even come close to the blessing we experience when we come together in worship of our great God and Saviour, but we hope that this might help you, at least in some small way, to be led in joyful worship this morning.

May He be glorified in our hearts, words, and lives!

❖ Welcome!

Good morning Redeemer Fellowship, it's been 10 months of lockdown in South Africa and even though we were allowed to meet as a congregation for some of this time, we are currently not allowed to meet and we are all longing for that day when we are allowed to meet again. I pray that you ask to pray with the management team of Redeemer Fellowship and also christians around the world as we all pray for our Governments to give us the green light to meet again as a congregation. Until we can do that, we will continue with on-line services, so this morning will be one of those again. We thank God for giving us the means to do that ... that we can still meet up, even though it is virtually, meet up as a church and just worship Him, the ONLY true God! I want to share with you a verse that Nico read to us at the prayer meeting on Friday. This verse really spoke to me ... and hopefully that will also be of encouragement to you. This is why we come to church on a Sunday, whether it is in person or virtually, to worship God. Psalm 145:3 "Great is the Lord and highly to be praised, and His greatness is unsearchable."

Let us pray…

Father we pray that You will help us to worship You. As this verse says, Your greatness is unsearchable, Lord ... we don't know the full extent of who You are and how holy You are ... but thank you Lord, that we can gather and worship You to the best of what we can as human beings. Father, we pray that You will help us to do that and that we will focus our minds .... focus our hearts on You, Father. Amen

❖ Worship Through Song

Come, O Sinner

Verse 1
Come, O sinner, come and see
Christ the Lord upon a tree
See the crown of thorns adorn the King
Who labors to breathe in agony
Come, O sinner, come and see
What our God became to set us free

Verse 2
Come, O sinner, come and mourn
For He calls your sin His own
Do you feel the weight of justice served?
He suffers the wrath that you deserve
Come, O sinner, come and mourn
For He bears the curse for all you’ve done

Chorus
Oh the wonder of this awesome scene
Where our Savior bleeds
Oh the power of the love of God
Come and stand in awe

Verse 3
Come, O sinner, come rejoice
Mercy fills this place of scorn
For He dies to save His enemies
That all who draw near may know His peace
Come, O sinner, come rejoice
Through the death of Christ death is destroyed

All I Have Is Christ

Verse 1
I once was lost in darkest night
Yet thought I knew the way
The sin that promised joy and life
Had led me to the grave
I had no hope that You would own
A rebel to Your will
And if You had not loved me first
I would refuse You still

Verse 2
But as I ran my hell-bound race
Indifferent to the cost
You looked upon my helpless state
And led me to the cross
And I beheld God’s love displayed
You suffered in my place
You bore the wrath reserved for me
Now all I know is grace

Chorus
Hallelujah!
All I have is Christ

Hallelujah!
Jesus is my life

Verse 3
Now, Lord, I would be Yours alone
And live so all might see
The strength to follow Your commands
Could never come from me
O Father, use my ransomed life
In any way You choose
And let my song forever be
My only boast is You

❖ Worship Through Scripture Reading & Prayer

Our scripture reading this morning is from 1 Chronicles 29 and we’re going to read from verse 1 to 19

1 Then King David said to the entire assembly, "My son Solomon, whom alone God has chosen, is still young and inexperienced and the work is great; for the temple is not for man, but for the LORD God.
2 Now with all my ability I have provided for the house of my God the gold for the things of gold, and the silver for the things of silver, and the bronze for the things of bronze, the iron for the things of iron, and wood for the things of wood, onyx stones and inlaid stones, stones of antimony and stones of various colors, and all kinds of precious stones and alabaster in abundance.
3 Moreover, in my delight in the house of my God, the treasure I have of gold and silver, I give to the house of my God, over and above all that I have already provided for the holy temple,
4 namely, 3,000 talents of gold, of the gold of Ophir, and 7,000 talents of refined silver, to overlay the walls of the buildings;
5 of gold for the things of gold and of silver for the things of silver, that is, for all the work done by the craftsmen. Who then is willing to consecrate himself this day to the LORD?"
6 Then the rulers of the fathers' households, and the princes of the tribes of Israel, and the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, with the overseers over the king's work, offered willingly;
7 and for the service for the house of God they gave 5,000 talents and 10,000 darics of gold, and 10,000 talents of silver, and 18,000 talents of brass, and 100,000 talents of iron.
8 Whoever possessed precious stones gave them to the treasury of the house of the LORD, in care of Jehiel the Gershonite.
9 Then the people rejoiced because they had offered so willingly, for they made their offering to the LORD with a whole heart, and King David also rejoiced greatly.

Let us pray, starting with David's Prayer from verse 10 to 19 ....
10 So David blessed the LORD in the sight of all the assembly; and David said, "Blessed are You, O LORD God of Israel our father, forever and ever.
11 Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, indeed everything that is in the heavens and the earth; Yours is the dominion, O LORD, and You exalt Yourself as head over all.
12 Both riches and honor come from You, and You rule over all, and in Your hand is power and might; and it lies in Your hand to make great and to strengthen everyone.
13 Now therefore, our God, we thank You, and praise Your glorious name.
14 "But who am I and who are my people that we should be able to offer as generously as this? For all things come from You, and from Your hand we have given You.
15 For we are sojourners before You, and tenants, as all our fathers were; our days on the earth are like a shadow, and there is no hope.
16 O LORD our God, all this abundance that we have provided to build You a house for Your holy name, it is from Your hand, and all is Yours.
17 Since I know, O my God, that You try the heart and delight in uprightness, I, in the integrity of my heart, have willingly offered all these things; so now with joy I have seen Your people, who are present here, make their offerings willingly to You.
18 O LORD, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, our fathers, preserve this forever in the intentions of the heart of Your people, and direct their heart to You;
19 and give to my son Solomon a perfect heart to keep Your commandments, Your testimonies and Your statutes, and to do them all, and to build the temple, for which I have made provision."

Let us Pray…

Father, we have gathered virtually this morning as Your church to worship You and You alone. Speak to us, Father, through your Word and Your Word alone! Ancient words, ever true....and I pray that these words will change all of us so that we can become more and more like Your Son, our Redeemer....Jesus Christ. Amen
